Minor patients

The opinion of a minor patient on a treatment measure has to be assessed, if it is possible with regard to the age or level of development. Minor patients have the right to forbid providing the guardians with information on the treatment. If the patient is too young to express his/her wishes on the treatment, he/she must be cared in mutual understanding with the guardians.

Doctors and other professionals assess the level of development, when it comes to deciding on a treatment measure.

The Act protects minor patients by stating that guardians cannot forbid any care which may be required to avert a threat to the patient's life or health.
