Starting your practical training

Unfortunately, there is no free-of-charge parking space for students in the Central Hospital area. However, you can park your car in Rautpohja, where the parking is free. The walk from Rautpohja takes approximately 5–10 minutes.

We recommend you use public transport, ride a bike or walk, if possible. There are several places in the area where you can leave your bike.

Outfits and dressing rooms

Central Finland Health Care District provides all students with protective clothing (two-piece outfit). Make sure to bring your own name badge and proper shoes. Wear socks even when it’s hot.

Dressing rooms for students of The School of Health and Social Studies of JAMK are located in a grey container behind the Main Building, between the printing service and the new Child and Adolescent Psychiatry building. Keys for the dressing rooms can be collected from the The School of Health and Social Studies of JAMK janitor/lobby service. Students from other institutions can collect their keys from HR services (Build. 21 B, 2nd floor) after a request from their supervisor. For more information, please contact Educational Nursing Director Matti Puhakainen (

Picture ID

If your practical training lasts for two weeks or more, you need to have a picture ID granted by the health care district. You can collect your card from HR Services after your supervisor has filled in the necessary forms. Students schedule their own photo shoots by calling the HR Services,  tel. +358 14 269 1182. For more information on how to get your own picture ID, see the following instructions: Picture ID instructions (pdf)
